Young Blood…

The fervour of youth and all the ingenuity and creativity that comes energetically bounding along with it never ceases to astound.

In a country where emerging designers are consistently nurtered there are two young Spaniards really standing out from the crowd.  Meet Cristina Alonso and Isaac Piñeiro… aka Nadadora.

One part graphic designer, the other industrial design trained, the whole of the parts present as a design studio that sees little benefit in limiting creativity to their respective disciplines, rather embracing the relationship between the two. Their similarities and contradictions are explored and expressed through their wonderfully diverse portfolio.

The studio, at only five years old, has already developed works for Sagen Ceramics, Almerich Lighting, Sancal and Nutella,  before that they have each independantly flexed their creative muscle working with some of Spains largest design houses, in Cristina’s case: Lzf lamps.

The beauty of their work is that humour and a sense of playfulness are worn proudly – there is no pretense and things are kept endearingly simple.

Keep an eye on these two… the future looks bright as a button.

We Have A Winner…

It would seem that all the stars aligned for one lucky visitor to AlexAndria, last weekend – the winner of our $20000 prize-pool is an Alex, herself!

As part of our Saturday InDesign participation we were awarding one visitor a swag of designer goodies in partnership with our lovely neighbours Cosh Living, Gelosa, Tsar Rugs and TCW.

We’re pleased to announce that Sydney-based Interior Designer Alex Mason claimed the lot and will be playing Foosball on her new RS Barcelona Foosball Table as well as enjoying new rugs, lounge chairs, stools and iPad and more.

Congratulations once again Alex!

Ferris Wheels In…

(NB. Since originally publishing this article on August 24th, the name of this product has been revised by the manufacturer, the new lounger and ottoman from KENNETH COBONPUE are now called PAPILLION)

The latest from Kenneth Cobonpue – Ferris – was unveiled by the LA Times this week, ahead of its premier at Masion et Objet in Paris this September.

Originally known as a pleasure wheel, the scaled Ferris Easychair exhibits rotational joy through the lens of an aerial structure.  Hand-woven nylon rope provides the ease with which to nestle between the powder-coated steel frawns.  Ottoman available to assist with levity.

Digital Canvases + Mosaics with Ontera…

At Saturday InDesign this year, Ontera and The Man In Blue will be getting creative with us in Warehouse 15!

As part of TheProject, our collaboration with HASSELL has seen the construction of something very special.  Warehouse 15 is a Red Bull sponsored pop-up bar/lounge that you won’t want to leave.

Injecting this installation with the element of interactivity, we have  a brilliant digital canvas created by The Man In Blue that is crying out for your input using one of our on-site iPads, then kick back and see your creativity displayed on a 5 metre projection against the warehouse walls!

Ontera are also on hand with the opportunity to explore their versatile carpet tile system by making your own mosaic to take away with you on the day.

It’s immersive, it’s hands on and it’s all happening at KE-ZU this Saturday InDesign!

We’re on the Blue Bus Line, Shuttle 1, Shuttle 2 and our own AlexAndria Express that will bring you to our front door!
